Soror Josephine Groves Holloway
(1898-1988)


Soror Josephine Groves Holloway is the founder of the first African American Girls Scout troop and 
the first African American Girl Scout executive in Middle, Tennessee.  Soror  Holloway is from
Cowpens, South Carolina.  She taught the Girl Scout promise, the laws, and everything needed for their 
investiture into Girl Scouting.  She also served as a district director and a camp director. In 1951,
the Council honored her by naming its new camp for Negro girls "Camp Holloway. Other honors
include the "Sojourner Truth Award" from the Nashville Chapter, of the 
National Association of Business and Professional Women and the  "Zeta of the Year Award" 
from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.  Mrs. Holloway retired from her scouting career on June 15, 1963.


Soror Dr. Elizabeth Ducan Koontz
(1919-1989)


Soror Dr. Elizabeth Ducan Koontz was the Director of Women's Bureau,
U.S. Department of Labor.  She was the first African American women to head Women's Bureau.
She was the first African American Women to rank in the Nixon Administration.
Soror Dr. Koontz was also the former president, of the National Education Association (NEA).
As president at that given time she discussed the movement in the South for 
equalization of Black teachers salaries and desegregation.
 
Soror Dr. Joyce Payne



Soror Dr. Joyce Payne is the founder of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund.
She found and chairs the board of directors for the G. James Gholson Endowment Fund.
Soror Dr. Payne is the Director of the Office for the Advancement of
Public Black Colleges (OAPBC) of the National Association of State Universities and 
Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC).  Dr. Payne formerly served as President of Global Systems, Inc.
and as a senior staff member under the Carter administration with the President's 
Advisory Committee for Women; President's National Advisory Council on
Women's Education Programs and the White House Conference on Families.
She is also one of the founders of the D.C. Chapter of the Coalition 
            of 100 Black Women, Inc.

Soror Dr. Lucy Perez



Soror Dr. Lucy Perez is a Medical Director of the U.S. Dept. of Health and 
Human Services Office of Substance Abuse Prevention.  She is also a Co-chair member of the
National Z-HOPE committee for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.



Soror Lullelia Harrison

Soror Lullelia Harrison was the 12th International Grand Basileus for
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc 1936-42.  She was also the first Executive Secretary of all the 
greek letter organizations and Southern Regional Director.

(1920-1998)
Soror Ester Rolle was an actress  who stared in the '70s sitcom "Good Times". Soror Rolle 
triumph over negative black stereotypes during her career.  Soror Rolle film credits include
Summer of My German Soldier, Driving Miss Daisy, Rosewood, and 
How to Make an American Quilt.

(1947-1979)


Soror Minnie Riperton was an entertainer.  Soror Riperton is especially known for the 
international hit single, entitled,  “Lovin' You”.

Soror Dionne Warwick
(1940-


Soror Dionne Warwick is known as a singer in the entertainment business.  One of Soror Warwick's
hit singles is"Don't Make Me Over".  Dionne Warwick received her first Grammy Award in 
1968 (for the classic "Do You Know The Way to San Jose?"), and in doing so she became the 
first African-American solo female artist of her generation to win the prestigious award for 
Best Contemporary Female Vocal Performance.




Soror JaNet Dubois
(1945-


Soror JaNet Dubois is a actress and singer that is best known as the neighbor "Willona" on
the classic 70s TV series "Good Times," .  Soror Dubois is also known for her voice you hear on 
the 'Movin' on Up' theme from "The Jeffersons," which she also co-wrote and composed.




Soror Dr. Tonea H. Stewart



Soror Dr. Tonea H. Stewart is a actress and first African American to star and later direct at the
New Stage Theatre in Jackson.  Soror Stewart is mainly known for her TV role as Aunt Etta in
"In the Heat of the Night".  Soror Stewart also played roles in the movies
Mississippi Burning, John Grishams, A Time To Kill,
ER,Walker, Texas Ranger and Touched By An Angel, and The Rosa Parks Story.




Soror Sheryl Underwood



Soror Sheryl Underwood is a actress, producer and comedian.  She is a 
well educated women who served in the armed forces.  Soror Underwood has appeared on
BET as co-host of BET's talk show Oh Drama!, HBO's All-Star Def Comedy Jam,
Showtime's Ace-Award Winning Full-Frontal Comedy Show,
the movie Bullworth with Warren Beatty, Master P's I Got The Hook Up,
Getting Played (2005), Beauty Shop (2005), "Holla" (2002), Working Girl (2001),
Sheryl Underwood & The Morning Misfits, ABC's Politically Incorrect, The Late, 
Late Show with Craig Kilborn, BET's Comic View, Comedy Central's Tough Crowd
with Colin Quinn, and was a guest on WB's Nikki.  Soror Underwood donates 5% of her
road earnings to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., where she is a lifetime member and has served as
President of her local chapter (Omicron Rho Zeta chapter). 
In addition to the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, 
Sheryl is also a member of the National Council of Negro Women and the NAACP.




 
Soror Sarah Vaughn
(1924 -1990)


Soror Sarah Vaughn is a international Jazz Singer and pianist.  Soror Vaughn Nickname 
was "Sassy" and the "Divine One."   Soror Vaughn recorded the hit "Lover Man" (1945) with 
Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie.  She Launched her solo career in 1946 at the 
New York Cafe Society. Vaughan repeatedly was voted the top female vocalist by Down Beat and
Metronome jazz magazines between 1947 and 1952. Her 1982 album Gershwin Live!
won a Grammy Award, and in 1989 she received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Vaughan was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame in 1990.

Soror Grace Ann Bumbry is an Opera Singer.  She made operatic history in 1961
when she was engaged by Wieland Wagner to sing at the Bayreuth Festival
and became the first African American singer 
to perform in the shrine of Wagnerian opera.

Soror Dr. Deborah Wolfe
(1916-2004)


Soror Deborah Wolfe was the fourteenth Grand Basileus.  She was the 
former U.S. Education Chief, U.S. House of Representative 
committee on Education and Labor, and Chairperson of the 
New Jersey Board of Higher Education.  Soror Wolfe built the first junior high school
for African Americans in Alabama in 1938 while she was an instructor at 
Tuskegee Institute. She became the school's first principal, and in 1961, 
the school was renamed the 
Dr. Deborah Cannon Wolfe high school (now the D.C. Wolfe elementary school).
